# THE TECHNO SATOYAMA

The philosophy behind the Mawari Network

***

In Japan, there is a word for the landscape where mountain and village sustain each other. Where the forest provides, the community tends, and neither survives without the other. That word is Satoyama.

Satoyama is not a conservation project or a park with a fence around it. It is a living system. A mosaic of farms, forests, waterways, and settlements, each one feeding the others. The mountain gives wood, water, and shelter. The village gives back through care, cultivation, and attention. The balance is not accidental. It is maintained, deliberately, through generations of shared effort. Because people choose to show up.

Take away the village, the mountain becomes overgrown and its trails disappear. Take away the mountain, and there is nothing left to sustain the village.

Mawari is the digital equivalent.

Our technology is the mountain. Our community is the village. Together, they form what we call the Techno Satoyama. A digital ecosystem where extraction has no place. Where the infrastructure gives back to those who tend it, and everything that flows through the network circulates rather than concentrates.

This is how we designed the network. It is how we think about every decision we make.

### Five Layers. One Ecosystem.

A traditional Satoyama is a mosaic. Croplands, forests, ponds, grasslands, all functionally linked. The system defines it, no single element does.

The Mawari ecosystem works the same way. Five layers, each feeding the others. Remove any one and the system breaks. Together, they form something no single competitor can replicate, because the strength lives in all of them working as one.<br>

### **Layer 1: Infrastructure**

A global compute network powered by Guardian Nodes, Spatial Streaming Nodes, Pulse Nodes, and enterprise partners.

The foundation of every Satoyama is the land itself. In the Techno Satoyama, the land is compute. Distributed globally, operated by a community that chose to power what Mawari built.

180,000+ Guardian Nodes form the verification backbone. They produce Quality of Service attestations that inform routing, reputation, and the overall health of the network. Spatial Streaming Nodes deliver the rendering power for real-time 3D experiences. Pulse Nodes extend reach through mobile participation. Enterprise partners contribute trusted, high-capacity infrastructure that anchors the whole system.

This is purpose-built infrastructure for the convergence of XR and AI. The kind that lets a 3D experience reach lightweight glasses at 30 milliseconds of latency. No hyperscaler was going to build this before demand was proven. So Mawari built it. And the community powers it.

### **Layer 2: Network**

The Mawari Network → orchestrating compute, storage, and bandwidth in real-time.

In a physical Satoyama, water follows channels shaped by generations of knowledge. It reaches where it is needed, in the quantity the landscape requires. Nothing flows randomly.

The Mawari Network is the irrigation system of the Techno Satoyama. It orchestrates compute jobs across the entire node infrastructure. Routing rendering tasks, balancing load, managing bandwidth so that resources reach the right place at the right time. Operations are recorded on-chain. The system is transparent, auditable, and self-correcting. No single entity controls the flow. The network coordinates it.

***

### **Layer 3: Technology**

Our patented 3D streaming engine → the core of the system, and it keeps evolving.

Every Satoyama has a technique that makes it productive. A way of tending the forest passed down through centuries, a method of managing water that turns raw land into something alive. Without the technique, the land is just land.

Mawari's patented 3D streaming technology reduces bandwidth consumption dramatically, making it possible to stream high-fidelity 3D content to lightweight devices in real-time. This is the technique that turns raw compute into spatial experience. And it does not stand still. The technology continues to evolve as new challenges emerge at the intersection of XR and AI.

XR+AI glasses are arriving. Every one of them will need edge compute → spatial streaming and AI inference at near-zero latency. The technology layer is what makes the Mawari Network capable of serving them.

***

### **Layer 4: Platform**

ARAWA → where creators and fans meet in the immersive world.

The Satoyama is more than infrastructure and technique. It is the life that inhabits it. The farmers, the artisans, the communities who turn raw landscape into culture. Without them, the system has no purpose.

ARAWA is the platform layer where creators build, perform, and connect with audiences in immersive experiences. VTubers streaming as 3D avatars in real-time. Characters brought into spatial worlds. AI-powered influencers reaching audiences in ways that did not exist before. As the technology matures, new forms of digital presence will inhabit this layer too.

Japan is where virtual culture meets the future of entertainment. The VTuber economy alone is worth billions. ARAWA is where the Techno Satoyama becomes alive. A production economy where the crop is interactive content and the village is the creator community that cultivates it.

***

### **Layer 5: Content**

Original IP that proves the model and drives the flywheel.

A healthy Satoyama produces. It is a working landscape that generates value for the people who tend it, season after season.

The content layer is where the ecosystem proves itself. Original IP partnerships, entertainment productions, immersive experiences that demonstrate the full stack in action → from infrastructure through network, through technology, through platform, to the content that reaches audiences.

Content brings demand to the network. That demand activates nodes. Active nodes strengthen the infrastructure. Stronger infrastructure attracts more creators and more content. The cycle feeds itself, and every layer plays a role in sustaining it.

### Who Tends the Digital Satoyama

A Satoyama without tending becomes wilderness. The trails disappear, the irrigation fails, the balance collapses.

In the Mawari ecosystem, "work" has a specific meaning. It is reserved for those who meaningfully contribute to the growth and health of the Techno Satoyama.

Operating a Guardian Node. Validating quality, anchoring trust, keeping the network honest. That is work.

Running a Spatial Streaming Node, delivering the rendering power that makes real-time 3D possible. That is work.

Contributing through a Pulse Node, extending the network's reach from a mobile device. That is work.

Locking tokens to strengthen the foundation of the network. A commitment to the long-term health of the Techno Satoyama. That is work.

Creating on ARAWA will open yet another layer of participation → bringing audiences into immersive experiences, producing the content that feeds the flywheel. That, too, is work.

The Techno Satoyama grows because its participants do the work. Mawari's ecosystem is designed to recognize those who contribute meaningfully to the growth of the ecosystem. Not spectators. Contributors.

### Built in Japan. For the World.

Mawari was founded in Shibuya, Tokyo in 2017. The name means "your surroundings" in Japanese. We named the company after the future we wanted to build.

Japan is where this begins. Virtual culture is mainstream here. The ambition for XR+AI runs through the telecom and device landscape. And the traditions of communal stewardship, the very principles that shaped the original Satoyama, run deep in the culture that surrounds us.

The community that arrived first did so naturally. For over a year, they have been showing up at community-led events to celebrate their passion and commitment for Mawari. They are the ones who understood what was being built before anyone else did. They understood the potential. And they chose to be part of this future.

Every network is fragile at birth. The way a child needs protection in its earliest days, the way Satoshi guarded Bitcoin's infancy before gradually widening the circle. First the founders. Then the true believers who will protect the network, nurture it, and make it strong enough to grow. That is the stage we are in. And the people who showed up first know exactly what that responsibility means.
